What to look forward to in the 2022 F1 season (Our top 5 picks)

5. Miami

Welcome to Miami, The all new track in Florida is ready for its F1 debut in 2022.

An initial bid in 2019 would have seen the track considered for the 2019 grand Prix…however complications arose around Port Miami’s construction and development plan, the track was again submitted for an F1 debut in 2021 but it did not meet the calendar, F1 instead opting for the Jeddah circuit in Saudi Arabia.

The track is now positioned to be the 5th event of the F1 2022 calendar.

With its extreme straight almost covering the entire width of the track and its plethora of curves and corners, Miami is looking to be a great track to watch, make sure you tune in this this race its shaping up to be a good one.

4. The future of F1

We will begin talking about the future of F1 by talking about its not so distant past.

The 2021 F1 season broke viewership records for formula one, up 54% from 2020, and up 25% from formula 1’s peak back in 1995, and came close to setting a record of being the most watched show of all time on American television

The most watched F1 race ever was 2021’s Bahrain decider between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

I will make the prediction that 2022 will continue this trend and out perform 2021 by a considerable margin, the 2021 season has reintroduced people to the sport of F1 in a big way, emboldened by the thrill of a one lap decider at the end of the Bahrain GP, and people will be eagerly awaiting more of that thrill in the 2022 season.

3. Rising talent

The average retirement age of a F1 driver is around their late 30’s and new talent is always arriving on the doorstep of formula one.

Formula 1 esports is accelerating the acquisition of talent as esport star Cem Bolukbasi now drives for F2

I think in the 2022 season it will be interesting to keep an eye on the young talent such as Lando Norris 22 for McLaren and Mercedes recent acquisition of George Russell 24.

This will be Norris’s 4th full season as well as Russell.

will they adapt better to the new cars faster than the seasoned racers?

We will have to find out, either way it will be great to see if they can improve over their previous years of racing.

Lando Norris

2. Super Max

2022 will be Verstappen’s 8th F1 season.

Coming in hot off of his controversial to say the least 2021 success can we see Verstappen continue to perform at his incredible level for a chance at a second title.

Even with the controversy surrounding Bahrain GP removed Max Verstappen gave Hamilton an incredible run for his money in 2021, even landing double the amount of Pole positions over Hamilton, will the success continue for Verstappen or will we see an emboldened Hamilton coming back to take his 8th championship with vengeance ?

Max Verstappen

1. New cars

How could no.1 be anything other than the new cars!

F1 is an incredibly visual sport and 2022 is leaning in to this fact.

The 2022 car is a big leap visually for the sport, the new cars are a big departure from what has come before them.

F1 has said that it wants to increase the spectacle of F1 and I think the new car captures this desire perfectly, the new design philosophy behind the car redesign is wanting racing to be more of a spectacle, wanting drivers to race harder and closer than ever before.

lets go over a few of the design choices made to achieve it.

Wheels!, the wheels are increasing in size to 18” which Formula 2 have been using since2020. with wheel covers now being mandatory, another change is the introduction of over wheel winglets all aimed at controlling air flow around and over the tyre

In a sport about speed weight would be the last thing you would expect to change but the weight of the cars is increasing by 5% up to 790kg.

This change is to ensure the safety of drivers and planting the vehicles to the road

Air flow and control is looking to be the biggest factor of change in the 2022 design.

I am really looking forward to see the new cars drive, we will see them early on February 23rd for a pre-season track session at the circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya home of the Spanish Grand Prix.

Lets see if they race as good as they look
